Functional bassoon breathing is the same as functional breathing for any wind instrument, though in order to achieve proper diaphragmatic breathing and access to full lung capacity, our primary postural concern is achieving a natural position and comfort. The instrument, though unwieldy, should never impact body position, and the primary mechanism for adjusting positioning in the seat strap - either sliding it forward or backward under the body or raising or lowering the height of the instrument by adjusting how much strap is allowed between the chair and the boot joint.
