Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre: Sonata II in B-flat Major for bassoon trio (arr. Bellamy-Lanz)
Sonata II in B-flat Major
Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729) -- French Baroque composer, harpsichordist, and organist
Originally for harpsichord, Sonata II features four movements historically performed attaca and here published as one continuous work, but each movement could be studied and presented separately. This arrangement challenges players in terms of endurance and stylistic awareness of the early Baroque period.
This arrangement for three bassoons was created as part of a larger project to expand representation of women composers in repertoire for bassoon from earlier musical eras and style periods than the present day. The parts are evenly distributed in terms of technical difficulty, though the ranges are traditionally divided for higher register first bassoon, middle register second bassoon, and lower register third bassoon parts.
